Question & Answer

Q. How are the fees for the consultation determined?

A. Following communication with NCA, the consultant reviews the scope of work sent by the client and either an hourly fee or project fee is negotiated. A contract is then mailed to the client, which is to be signed by both negotiating parties.

Accreditation Reports: Review and analysis
Clinical Programs: Development, evaluation and analysis
Continuing Education: Workshops and programs
Curriculum Design: New or Revision
Graduate Specialty Courses
Health Services Informatics: Organizational information systems analysis
Nurse Managed Centers: Establishment, Operation and Cost Analysis
Private Practice: Entrepreneurial models and evaluation

Accreditation reports, critical for recognition by regulatory agencies and professional organizations, can be reviewed for adherence to the published standards and criteria. These documents along with discussions with administration and faculty would be part of the consultation. A variety of methods can be used to accomplish this type of project.

Clinical Programs for the graduate Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse will be developed within an existing graduate nursing program to meet the current acceptable guidelines and professional standards. Levels of learning, clinical experiences, placement, preceptorships, evaluation and capstone experiences to prepare the graduate to work in the changing health care system are part of the consultation.

Continuing education and workshops can be developed in areas of consultant expertise and interest. These would be presented as arranged between the requesting institution/organization and the individual consultant. Nurse Consultant Associates is an established Continuing Education provider in the state of California.

Curriculum design for new programs would begin with the philosophy, mission and values of the institution/organization. The current trends in nursing and goals of the school are part of the organizing framework in building a curriculum to support the education of the potential students. Meetings would be held with administration and the faculty to assess the status of development with relation to regulatory, statutory, and professional standard processing, theoretical and conceptual paradigms and course enhancement is completed. The consultation could also include work with the faculty members until the outcomes of the graduate were realized.

Curriculum revision, realignment or modification also starts with the philosophy, mission and values of the institution/organization. The existing curriculum would be reviewed with the new direction and goals expressed by the administration and faculty taken into consideration. Working with the faculty to examine methods of learning, teaching and evaluation to alter the curriculum to meet the new goals would be part of the consultation and revision process.

Graduate Specialty Courses: Individual consultants will develop the framework of specialty courses for graduate education in their specific areas. The courses will include suggested credit hours, objectives, content areas, references and resources for faculty development. The consultation could include workshops and guest lectures.

Health Services Informatics: NCA provides consultative services to health care institutions/organizations seeking assistance with planning, implementation, and evaluation of new information technology/systems. Key services include pre-implementation assessment of organizational readiness and risk for new information technology/systems, and evaluation of information technology/systems implementation outcomes.

Nurse Managed Centers: Institutions/organizations interested in establishing nurse-managed centers within or external to the parent will be advised related to processes necessary in this undertaking. Foundational work within the administration of the institution/organization related to financial support, regulatory application, facility construction/renovation and staffing are part of the consultation. Faculty practice, protocol development, quality outcome measures and cost analysis are additional areas of consultations available in the establishment and operation of nurse managed centers.

Private practice for advanced practice nurse entrepreneurs or physicians collaborating with advanced practice nurses embarking on providing primary care services can receive consultation related to the establishment and/or maintenance of this private or group practice. Patient flow, fee structure, protocols, prescribing, peer review and contract negotiations can be part of the consultation. Criteria for identifying the collaborating professional and review of the clinician's credentials are essential for a quality practice to be successful. The consultation would not include advise on the state statutory rules and regulations governing a collaborative practice as this is best accomplished by an attorney residing in the state of the practice.
